Preparing for the First Class Some of you may be teaching actually. For ot hers will be the first time. I have no experience in teaching and I found really interesting learning how to menage the first time. Hope this information will be helpful even for you. OPEN WITH A BANG To prepare for your first class, choose a strong opening. How to Be a Successful Teacher I decided to study english becouse I like learning foreign languages. Nowing a foreign language (or more than one) means that you have more possibilites to communicate with people from different places and cultures. You can also find a job easily. Then, when I finished the bachelor I decided to study teaching. I want my students to learn from me. The first semester and the second too, we had some subjects about teaching. The more we engage with the subjects, more we confront with the reality of how much difficult is being a teacher.  In fact t eaching at any level is a challenging occupation: students can be demanding, the grading often feels endless, and talking in front of a room full of people gives many teachers anxiety. However, like any other worthwhile professional pursuit, teaching has a learning curve. Once you’ve learned to feel comfortable in front of your students, teaching will become a fun, rewarding job. You can become a success...
Hello future teachers. Same of you that presented the final project included a video related to your topic. And others that have to present in comming days may have planned to do. I want to share with you an information regarding using videos in teaching that I really find interesting and useful for us as future teachers.    it is important to consider ahead of time what you hope your students will learn from the videos. You will also need to plan out how you will help the students learn, and how you will know whether they have done so. In planning to use video, consider the following three distinct phases: Phase 1:  Provide questions (prompts) that focus your students on what you believe is important in the video. Consider why you are having them watch the video, and what you hope they will learn from watching it. You can list the prompts on the board or on a worksheet that you hand out in class or post online before class. You can have students write down their a...

Evolution of technology in teaching: Blackboard. In the final project we have to use at least three technological elements. Consequently I want to share with you the evolotion of technology in teaching. Blackboard is one of the elements that people used since early times. I am going to tell about the types and evolution of blackboard.  Teaching and learning, which is t he passing of knowledge from one generation to another, has been in existence from the earliest times of human civilization. It began in 1801, with a large piece of slate hung on the wall in a school in Scotland to provide information to a large audience at one time. Meanwhile in the US by mid-19th century, every class room had a blackboard to teach students. The modern version of the blackboard is either green or brown board. On the other hand the whiteboards came into use during the late 1980s. The teaching boards The need to provide information to a large audience at one time led to the evolution of te...

What teaching style is best for today’s students? We are going to present the lesson as teachers week by week. Consiquently I choose to share with you teaching methods, specifying the best teaching style. In fact as future teachers we will have in mind to put into practice all of the pedagogical techniques we are learning at university. It would not be wrong but we should consider that not all students respond well to one particular style. The traditional advice that teachers not overreach with a cluster of all-encompassing teaching styles might seem to conflict with today’s emphasis on student-centered classrooms. Theoretically, the more teachers emphasize student-centric learning the harder it is to develop a well-focused style based on their personal attributes, strengths and goals. Here are some other factors to consider as teachers determine the best teaching method for their students. Empty vessel : Critics of the “sage on the stage” lecture style point to the “empt...
Last friday I didn't  have the possibility to be present during the lesson, so I decided to google about cooperative learning. I learnt a lot of new things and I found interesting to share with you the history of development of Cooperative Learning. In the mid-1960s, cooperative learning was relatively unknown and largely ignored by educators.  Elementary, secondary, and university teaching was dominated by competitive and individualistic learning.  Cultural resistance to cooperative learning was based on social Darwinism, with its premise that students must be taught to survive in a “dog-eat-dog” world, and the myth of “rugged individualism” underlying the use of individualistic learning.  While competition dominated educational thought, it was being challenged by individualistic learning largely based on B. F. Skinner’s work on programmed learning and behavioral modification.  Educational practices and thought, however, have changed.  Cooperative learni...
